Day 18 : Climbing on Castle Hill - Jour 18 Castle Hill

Castle Hill is the red rock monolith constantly overlooking and protecting Townsville. You may see the rock from pretty much anywhere in the city. Only meters short from being classified as a mountain, Castle hill offers many walking tracks to get to the top. It is a not-so-difficult 1+km / 30-minute walk to the top, where you get awesome panoramic views on the city and Magnetic Island as well as breathtaking sunsets. Locals trying to get fit also use this rock as a running path. You will find them running the natural steps of the walking track from bottom to top and then back down again. I tried it once. It is quite tiring and dangerous : you would not want to miss a step on your way down, or you might get there a little faster than expected...

Castle Hill est un rocher monolithe rouge qui surplombe Townsville et que vous pouvez apercevoir d'à peu près n'importe quel endroit dans la ville. A quelques mètres seulement d'être classé parmi les montagnes, Castle Hill offre de nombreuses pistes de randonnées. Sortes de sentier jonchés de marches naturelles, ces sentiers vous conduisent au sommet après une marche de difficulté moyenne de 30 minutes pour un peu plus d'1 kilomètre. Au sommet vous avec une vue panoramique impressionnante sur la ville, et sur Magnetic Island, ainsi que de spectaculaires couchers de soleil. Les locaux utilisent aussi souvent Castel Hill comme piste d’entraînement et parcours les sentiers au pas de course du bas jusqu'en haut et inversement. Je l'ai tenté une fois, c'est assez fatiguant en un peu dangereux puisque vous ne voudriez surtout pas manquer une marche dans votre descente, au risque d'arriver en bas, un peu trop rapidement.
